Planning a Destination Wedding
Planning a destination wedding can be a daunting experience, especially if you’re unsure about the best place to tie the knot. Whether you choose Mexico or the Caribbean, your wedding needs to be an occasion you’ll hold in your memories forever. While you may worry about planning a wedding that seems so far away, in truth, many destination weddings are easier to plan than others.
There are many reasons couples choose to have a destination wedding. For one, the occasion can be highly intimate. A destination wedding can be the perfect mini-vacation for your family and friends to spend time with you before, during, and after the wedding. That way, the bride and groom have more time to spend with their loved ones who took the time to fly out for the ceremony.
While most brides spend the day before their wedding frantically worrying about last minute details, with a destination wedding, you don’t necessarily have to! You will have to give your guests’ ticket estimates and hotel rates for where you’re staying, but a lot of the last minute worries most brides have will probably be taken care of by the hotel. Most hotels have wedding-package deals, so your worries are taken care of.
Another great reason to choose a destination wedding is that they are oftentimes much less expensive than a traditional affair. Why are destination weddings cheaper? Usually, these weddings involve a smaller guest list, and hotels oftentimes have wonderful package deals for the wedding. Your wedding will be the most memorable occasion of your life, and a destination wedding can create wonderful memories for the happy couple and save your wallet.
Of course, no destination wedding can save your wallet if you prefer a lavish affair to a small, intimate gathering. When planning, take your budget into account for the amount of guests you plan to invite to your wedding. Generally, the more people you invite, the higher the cost of your wedding will be. Subsequently, if you only invite your closest friends and family and keep the wedding party small, your destination wedding can be an economical choice over a traditional affair. It all amounts to how much you can afford to spend on the occasion.
If you do need to watch how much you spend, consider choosing a less-touristy attraction for your wedding. If you are planning to marry at a very high-end location, you may want to plan your wedding during the off season when prices for hotels and other amenities are likely to be less expensive. Don’t forget to take into account the cost of a wedding rehearsal, if you’re having one, as well as the reception. Planning these details well in advance will make your destination wedding much less of a hassle in the long run.
While you’re planning your wedding, it’s also important to give your guests notice well in advance of the wedding date. This way, you can ensure that your guests have ample time to prepare for a wedding destination that’s relatively far away. Generally, you’ll want to send out save-the-date cards at least 5 months in advance so guests can have time to look over the details and decide if they’ll be able to come to the ceremony.
No matter where you plan your destination wedding, look over all the details beforehand to ensure your ceremony will go off without a hitch. Your wedding will be an event to remember for a lifetime – but planning the event shouldn’t be a headache! Give your relatives and friends plenty of notice and keep your budget in mind, and you can have a beautiful ceremony in an exotic location for an event you’ll never forget.
